Knowing that his advise to Yuan Shao that troops should be sent to attack Cao Cao's camp in Guandu which was presume to be empty in order to divert Cao Cao's forces from Wuchao failed, Guo Tu tried to save his own skin by telling Yuan Shao that Zhang He and Gao Lan did not do their best in attacking Guandu in order to shift the blame to Zhang He and Gao Lan.
